And now the event highlight of the Festival Players' Social Calendar....Evening with the Festival Players!
This year, the event will be held on Saturday September 11th at Newton Village Hall at 7.30pm. For those of you who haven't been before, this is a cabaret night where anyone is welcome to perform an act. The acts can be anything, including solos, duets, ensemble numbers, sketches, poems or anything you can think of that might entertain. Performers form part of the audience when not on stage and there will be food provided during the interval, courtesy of the fabulous Michael Husband. :) Please let me know in advance if you would like the meat or veggie option and also if you have any special dietary requirements and we will do our best to cater for those. Food this year will be Sweet and Sour Chicken, or S&S Vegetables, with egg noodles and prawn crackers. There will be some soft drinks provided, but please do bring along your own as well. Alcohol is welcome. Cost will be £7 for members and £8 for non-members (extra £1 is optional).
For those interested in performing as well as watching, you can start emailing me details of your acts now. If you would like to be part of the audience, but not in any acts, you can also email me now. We need numbers for the catering and there is a maximum capacity of the venue as well, so book your place sooner rather than later! This year we will be accompanied by Andrew Taylor, and he will need copies of the music in advance of the event. Please make sure your music reaches him by 28th August. There will be a rehearsal day on Sunday 5th September from 2pm - 6pm and a final rehearsal on the actual day of the event. You will not be required for the entire rehearsal (unless you're in a lot of acts!) and I'll let you know closer to the time exactly when you will be needed. There will also be an ensemble number directed by Tommy to close the show, which will be rehearsed in the final hour of the two rehearsal sessions. If you would like to be involved in this, please email me to let me know and also tell me your preferred voice range. This helps Tommy to balance the voices we have! If you have any questions on either event, please email me and I will try to answer them.
To remind you, email me now to let me know: - you're coming to the BBQ - you're coming to EWFP - meat/veggie food for EWFP (or dietary requirements) - you'd like to do an act at EWFP - you'd like to be in the ensemble number and what your voice range is (i.e. soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass...or maybe contra bass in Les's case?? ;) )
I hope my inbox will withstand the torrent of emails... ;) Thanks,
Anna (Social Sec for FP) |

It's that time of year again where we scratch our heads and don our thinking caps for the annual Quiz Night! The event will be held at Castle End Mission on Saturday 8th May, 2010. Doors will be open at 7.30pm and the Quiz will start at 8.00pm. Warren has kindly agreed once more to host the evening for us. This is an event for all friends and family, so please feel free to bring along your nearest and dearest - the more the merrier! Cost will be £4 for members and £5 for non-members (the £1 additional contribution is voluntary). There will be nibbles and soft drinks provided, but I encourage you to bring along any drinks or food of your own choice with you in addition. Tickets will be available on the door, but it would be better if you email me (
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
at gmail.com) to let me know you're coming first. This helps me know the number to cater for, but mainly it helps me to sort out your teams! Teams of up to 8 people are allowed, so you can either get your own 8 together and email me their names, or else just let me know you're coming and I'll make sure you get sorted into a team. Those of you involved in Chess will realise that this is actually the date of our first all-day rehearsal (and is also Janice's Birthday!), but I hope that many of you will stick around and join us in the quiz and enjoy a full day of FP activity! I believe that there may be a trip to the local curry house or pub in between the rehearsal and the quiz to look forward to as well... I hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Everyone! And Happy New Year!

When: 6:30pm, Saturday 16th January 2010.
Where: Harriet's house, Great Shelford. Tickets: £6 for members, £8 for non-members. (Additional £2 for non-members is voluntary.) To be paid for at the event.
What you get:
On arrival - Warm hot fruit punch Chicken and walnut lasagne served with mixed leaf and crusty bread or Sweet and sour vegetables served with scented rice Assorted puddings
Mingling, fun and games! There will be some soft drinks, but please feel free to bring along your own choice of tipple.... ;) What to do now: Email me to let me know you intend to come, and also whether you (and any guests) would like the meat or veggie mains option. Food choices must be with me by 13th January for catering purposes. I really hope to see as many of you as possible there. If you're new to the society, or have just become involved in Chess or the Touring Show, then please please please come along and meet everyone. This is a lovely informal event to come along and get acquainted with the society, and we're really not that scary. In fact, our host Harriet can probably attest to how welcoming we are. She was a new member last year, came along to the Winter Warmer Party before meeting any of us involved in last year's production of Sweeney Todd, and is now hosting this year's event! Please email me to let me know if you're coming, what food choice you'd like and also if you have any other questions.

Chess audition dates announced I am delighted to announce that the Chess auditions will be held on Tuesday 8th (evening) and Saturday 12th December (all day) at the Castle End Mission. There will also be a pre-audition evening on Thursday 3rd December where you can come and join in a company choral item from Chess, learn more about the show and parts, and share a glass of wine. This will also be a great opportunity to meet the production team, other potential members of the cast and have an opportunity to ask questions about the audition material. Everyone is welcome to come to the pre-audition evening, even if you think you are unlikely to want to audition. If you are new and would like to bring a friend for support that is equally fine. If you are interested in auditioning please review the following steps, referring to our website, www.festivalplayers.org for any material, and then contact Linda who will be able to answer any immediate questions and book you an audition slot. 1) Review the list of roles on the website and decide which part you would like to audition for. You only need select one, as you will automatically be considered for other roles, unless you request otherwise on the audition form. 2) Download the appropriate audition material (MUSIC AVAILABLE NOW!! - in the Members area - email auditions at festivalplayers dot org for the password) 3) Come to the pre-audition evening, bringing your downloaded material including the material for the group number that we will be doing together. 4) Email Linda on auditions at festivalplayers.org stating which part you would like to audition for and your preferred date/time (Linda will do her best to accommodate you) 5) Download the audition form from the members area and complete, ready to bring with you to the audition. 6) Review the rehearsal schedule to make sure you can make the commitment and to identify any dates that you know you can’t make – add details to audition form 7) Come and audition, arriving 10 minutes early and bringing your material and completed audition form. 8) Show us what you’ve got! Auditions will be held in front of a 5 person (friendly) panel, including the Director and MD. Those auditioning for principal parts will be allocated a 10 or 15 minute slot and those interested in chorus will be allocated 5 minutes. During the audition you will be asked to sing, read and possibly do a short dance sequence. VENUE – Castle End Mission for all events – map on website I hope this covers everything you need but please email Linda (auditions at festivalplayers.org) if you have any questions. |
