Festival Players show for 2013: Parade

The Festival Players are delighted to announce that next year’s show will be Parade.

With a book by Alfred Uhry and music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, Parade was first produced on Broadway in 1998, where it won two Tony awards (for best book and best score) and six Drama Desk awards. The 2007 production at London’s Donmar Warehouse was nominated for seven Olivier awards, and was described by critics as “engrossing”,“powerful”, and “ambitious”, with 'a score that is a seamless tapestry of mood and feeling, full of heartfelt anthems and yearning ballads” and a “gripping” storyline.

Parade continues the Festival Players’ fine tradition of staging exciting and challenging shows. Set in the US state of Georgia in 1913, the musical tells the true story of Jewish factory worker Leo Frank, accused of the murder of a thirteen year old girl. As Frank stands trial, the local press whip up tensions within a society already riven by hatred and intolerance, yet his wife’s love for him only grows as events built to their dreadful climax.

Parade is a dramatic, moving and engaging show that sets love against hatred. Musically, it takes in a wide range of styles: gospel, hymns, ragtime and blues all figure in a score that echoes popular songs to great emotional effect.

Festival Players are also delighted to announced that the auditions for its next Main Show, Parade, will be on 9th and 12th of January 2013.  For details, you will need to log into the Members Area HERE, where you will find the list of characters, a provisional rehearsal schedule, How to Book an audition and the audition material.  To access the Members Area you need to email our secretary, Davinia, on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
